On a rainy Friday night that seemed determined to keep a guy down, Raider Nation rose up. It was just another day for our Boys and Girls teams, as they proved they can dismantle the opposition in hostile territory as well as in the Pit. Can anyone stop these Raiders?
The Girls team won another nail biter against Forsyth Central, down by as much as 12 points in the second quarter. The Lady Raiders came back strong with a finish of 56-50. Sophomore Tomisin Adenupe proved too much for the Bulldogs, finishing at the rim with ease with 19 points. Freshman Liz Williams also was a big contributor with hustle plays and her defensive abilities on full display. The ladies struggled early on until the end of the 1st half, when the elusive three point shots started to drop for the Raiders. The Girls also defeated Kennesaw Mountain on Saturday, 50-30, which takes them to 4-0 on the season before beginning region play. It seems as if the girls are in for a special season, so what are you waiting for? Come out and watch the girls as they charge toward a region championship.
The Boys team handled business on Friday once again; there never seemed a point that they would have to work overtime. In a game which saw them up for its entirety, the Raiders walked away with a resounding 57-48 win. Junior Cole Morris had a late Thanksgiving Friday, as he feasted in the paint, pouring in 14 points and strong play on the offensive boards. With the offense coming out stagnant for both sides to start the 2nd half, it was sophomore Carson Adler jumpstarting the offense for the Raiders, going on a 5-0 run by himself and ending with 8 points. In a game in which the opposing crowd was a large factor, the boys were able to brush them aside on their way to the win, now 4-1 entering region play. The Boys look strong to start the year, and this team has the chance to do some special things with the help of their supporting fans, Raider Nation!
A great week has the Raiders pushing towards the start of their region schedule, opening with Etowah in the Pit on Tuesday, girls starting at 6, followed by the boys at 7:30. This is a RED out, so wear that Raider Pride on Tuesday, and show up and show out for YOUR Walton Raiders.
